I backed in to a car across the street when backing out of my driveway. The car owners aunt is a mechanic and stated that the damage was probably less than 300 and not worth filing with insurance. I agreed to have the driver send me an estimate when she returned home (out of state). Today she sent me an estimate for $1789.00! plus wants 4 days rental car. How do I know this estimate is not inflated or submitted by a "friend".... anyone can type up an estimate on letterhead. I requested the lady obtain 2 more estimates and that at this price I may need to file with insurance. She refused and stated "I do not have time"....... What can I do?.....What if it is too late to file with insurance? This happened 2 days ago. No police report was taken.
