Father losing house because of checks being forged in his name

My disabled father just realized that my brother's girlfriend has been forging his checks, and writing them to herself. She has stolen over $4000. He discovered this was happening after getting a foreclosure notice in the mail. He would have my brother's girlfriend mail his house payment checks, but she would throw them away and write the same amount out to herself. My father's house is going to be foreclosed on in 18 days. What can I do to stop/ postpone/ give ourselves time to figure this out?

1st off he needs to file a police report on the girlfriend and go to the bank where the checks are written off of-- and file a affidavit of forgery, work with the bank on what to do-- call the mortgage company and see how far behind he is and see if they will work w. him for the moment until he can get this girl charged w. forgery -- they bank may or may not have insurance for this-- only if he files the charges and they prosecute her
