I have a question concerning harassment from family members. This concerns my 21 year old daughter and her 20 year old husband. This all began last year at my mothers house. My sister started an argument with my daughter and it turned physical when my sister attacked my daughter. My mother was witness to the attack and after my sister left the house she went straight over to her oldest daughters house and lied to her stating that my daughter had attacked her. Her daughter then came over to my moms, entered without permission and went to my daughters room and attacked her. My daughters boyfriend (now husband) broke up the fight. My niece then left the house, went directly to the police station and filed charges against my daughter and her boyfriend for assault. We went to court and the judge listened to my nieces lawyer but didnt even give my daughters lawyer or my mom a chance to give their witness. He made my daughter and her boyfriend do community service and take anger management. We all felt that the judge was very unfair but what can you do? After this my sister and her two daughters started posting very ugly lies about us all on the web, even my mom, saying we were all lying about what happened. Since then my daughter and her boyfriend were married last month (july) and he joined the army, leaving for boot camp on 7-15 where he is right now. My daughter and her husband were living with my mom for the last few years, my daughter still lives with her, mainly because my mom wants them to because she gets lonely since my father passed away 3 years ago. My mom every summer brings my nieces 6 year old son (the niece that attacked my daughter) over to the house to stay and visit for the summer for several weeks. Last month he began asking my mom questions about what happened between his mom, grandma and my daughter. My mom told him the truth, that they had both started a fight with my daughter. When my niece found out that my mom had told him a different story than the lies i am sure they have been telling him, she got upset and took him home. That was around july 16th. She told my mom that she didnt want her child having hard feelings against his grandma, my mom told her she did nothing but tell him the truth about what happened. So her son then went to stay a few weeks with his grandma (the one that attacked my daughter) . This was all last month, about 3 weeks ago. Last night my daughter called me all upset. My niece had called my mom telling her that her son (the one that was staying with my mom) told her that he wasnt feeling well, and when she asked him why he said that my daughter and her husband has "grabbed him around the waist really tight and threw him on the sofa, hurting his stomach" and she was taking him to the doctor and will file charges against my daughter and her husband. Now recall, the child has been away from my moms house for over 3 weeks now, having no contact with my daughter or her husband. My mom had given the child a bath the night before he went home and there were no bruises on his stomach or waist, and he did not complain of tenderness or say anything about hurting. Neither my daughter or her husband had grabbed the child around the waist or hurt the child in any way when he was at my moms house, they love the child very much and would never hurt him. We all feel that my niece, having found out that my son in law has joined the army, is hoping that she can somehow get him thrown out of the army or somehow disturb his training in some way by making the charges against them both. My mom is very upset about this all, and she will testify that the child was fine when he left to go home and neither my daugher or son in law has had any contact with him since last month, over 3 weeks ago. On a side note, my niece is a pot head and there is always parties over at her house with people coming and going. Do we have a case against her with harassement, defamation of character, or anything? Also, i told my mom to tell my neice that if she pursues this course of action, I am going to report her to social services. Her house is filthy and the few times i have been there, there was little food in the house. She feeds them fast food because she is too lazy to cook. I think she is stoned half the time. What do you think our options are?
