Hello,
My husband works as a technician for a large cable company. He goes to people's homes to install and troubleshoot their cable, phone, and internet. He got to work today and heard from his supervisor that one of his customers from last Saturday filed a police report against him, saying that he stole jewelry from their house. This is absolutely not true. My husband is one of the most upstanding, moral individuals I have ever known. He has no police records...he has never been in any trouble at all, really. My concern is not so much on him getting in trouble. I believe nothing can really come of this because he cannot be prosecuted without proof, and because he didn't do it, there will be no proof to be found. The reason I'm writing this is because I am so angry that someone could do this to him. He is never anything but polite and helpful to people. Apparently, these people wanted him to put their new computer together when he was finished whatever work he was there for. He didn't do this, as it is not part of his job--and I think he is not supposed to mess with personal property anyway. So the people called and complained to his company that he did not finish the job (which he did) and then later filed the report. SO what I really want to know is whether or not we can do anything to these people for filing a false report. I realize that this information is preliminary, I probably don't have all the details yet...and also that my concern is based greatly on emotion. But I know that my husband is hurt and insulted, and his coworkers may view him differently now. I guess you need to prove some sort of damages in cases like this, but I found the Pennsylvania law about false reports to law enforcement authorities, and it is apparently a misdemeanor of the second degree to falsely incriminate someone... I want these people to be punished for their hurtful actions.
Thank you so much,
karen (PA)
