Hello:
I received a speeding ticket yesterday. The officer claimed I was doing 79 in a 55, which I can say I was absolutely NOT. I was closely watching the speedometer when his lights went on and I was doing about 62. I was understandably shocked when he informed me of this and I asked to see the radar. He said it wasn't locked. He asked me how fast I thought I was going and (mistakenly) told him the truth. He came back to the car and told me he was going to give me a break and wrote the ticket for 64, faster than I was going, but a lot less than 79! Anyway, he said I should wait five days and then call the number on the back (the court phone #) and if I have a good driving record, they would reduce the points...except that 64 in a 55 results in only one point. After realizing this I also noticed that the officer checked the box for 10-19 miles over, which would be 4 points. What is going on here? I am sure it is illegal since the officer clearly lied about my speed, but what does checking the wrong box have to do with anything? If I decide to pay the ticket by mail, will there be 1 or 4 points against me? Thanks in advance for any help!
Jason.

Sounds like the officer just started to charge you with one speed and then changed his mind. Give it time to be entered and then call the clerk of court and find out what they are showing. Call the error to her attention and it should not be a problem. Be sure to confirm your conversation if you decide to go ahead and pay the ticket.
