Employer checking credit report

I have been working with my company for 10+ years. I have a credit monitoring service and I was notified that they looked into my credit report (as new employment). Why would they do this?

Hmm, how would any of us know why someone, anyone, investigated your credit report?

Here's a novel idea, why don't YOU ask THEM?

My then-employer once had to do that because a major funding grant required it. It wasn't anything personal - we just stood to lose a whole lot of research money if we didn't. As to why the funding source wanted it, I don't believe I ever asked.

There are various reasons why this might be done. We don't know why - you would have to ask them.
