:no:I have been an employee of a local department store for almost three years. When I reported for my scheduled work day on 12/9/08 I was met at the door by loss prevention and the police who handcuffed me. I was accused of taking $1800 of merchandise and I admitted I was guilty. I was taken to my apartment and they confiscated some merchandise. I had been taking things for about a month. This was the first job of my life and I don't know why I started to do this. I do not have a lawyer and I don't know what to expect when I go to court. Is it possible I could pay back the $1800 to lessen charges against me? I was told by a relative I could go to the first court appearance and a public defender would be appointed to me. Is that what I need to do? I am 19 years old and scared to death. I really need your help.
