Hello,
I have a question about an emergency hospital bill. About six months ago my husband had to go to the emergency care. Since he did not have any medical insurance the amount he owed for doctors, tests they ran, and for the facility used was about $7,000. After the discount they gave him the amount was reduced to about $5,300. We paid the doctors' bills and the tests which were separate bills however we were not able to pay the emergency care bill which was $4,200. This bill with interest now is getting close to $5,000 and it has been forwarded to a collection agency. My husband was unemployed at the time he visited the emergency care and he is still unemployed now and he is no longer receiving unemployment insurance. We own two cars we have paid off and we own a house for which we are paying mortgage, we do not have any debt on credit cards or otherwise. At this point we cannot afford to pay this emergency bill of $5000 until my husband finds a job. What is the probability the collection agency will take us to court and we might lose our home or cars? Would you give me any advice?
Thanks,
Zoey
