Driving on a suspended license.

I was pulled over on Friday for expired tags. My license had been suspended from prior speeding tickets. I thought I had paid them but apparently I had not. The cop wrote me a misdemeanor citation instead of taking me to jail. He told me that if I could get my license reinstated by the time I have to go to court the judge more the likely will just throw it out. I called the court house in the county my tickets were in and they told me to just come in and pay them. Then I would have to pay the fee for the driver's license reinstatement. I am going to go pay the tickets tomorrow and pay the reinstatement fee also. Would the judge throw it out? Also would penalties or fees would I have. Is there anything else I should/need to do? Any help would be most greatly appreciated.

misdemeanor citation was in Davidson County in Nashville Tennessee. Tickets were from Wilson County in 2001
