I have recently moved to Georgia and accepted a job as a teacher in a public school. I have a question that is similar to the rest of those asked, but they all seemed to be private companies or employers. Does a public school district have the right to restrict length of hair and earrings for a male employee but not a female employee? Would this be a title VII violation of the Civil Rights Act? Only one person in passing has asked if I would have to cut my hair and take out my earrings, but she was not the principal or director of HR.

Any employer, public or private, has the right to establish the dress codes required for their employees.

Multiple courts have ruled that differing dress codes for men and women does NOT violate Title VII. The fact that it may be a public employer does not change Title VII.
