Prior to 2003, my mother agreed to pay for a Verizon phone contract for someone else. In 2003, she thought she signed papers turning over the contract to the other person. But she just received a letter from a collection agency saying she owes $2,500. Contract ended in 2005.
Any suggestions on how we might dispute this claim? Is it worth fighting (in terms of time, aggravation and possible added expense) or best to negotiate a reduced settlement? I guess I'm asking "does she has a leg to stand on"?
My mom is 83 and not in the best of health.
Thank You,
S.B.
