Hoping someone can provice clarification on the implementation of the Young Offenders Act in 1984. Specifically - how the records of 16 and 17 year olds who were convicted of minor offenses prior to 1984 were handled once the Young Offenders Act was introduced in 1984. I sent an email to Justice Canada but never received a reply.

Example - If a 16 year old person was convicted as an adult for shoplifting in 1978 (since at that time they would have simply been considered an adult at 16 years of age in Alberta), would their criminal record have be removed and the records handled and controlled as per the Young Offenders Act (YOA) once the YOA came into law in 1984 (since after 1984 people are not normally treated as adults until they are 18 unless it is a serious crime).

Thanks in advance for your feedback!
