I recently received a judgement against me for an unpaid Discover card bill that we did try to settle.

The complaint was originally filed in Ohio in June 2007. We have been living in New York state since December 2006 having moved from Ohio.

We were advised by our Debt settlement company not to respond as the complaint needed to be filed in the county you live in at the time of filing the complaint.

We had been talking with the plaintiffs lawyer prior to teh court date and informed him of this. He even offered to settle because of it.

Now that I have received this judgement against me how do I proceed?

See the time limits which you have to contest it before it becomes final. Try taking advice by calling the county clerk or reading the law to see or answer your questions about the law. Don't depend for advice from people who are not lawyers or court officers. Taking wrong advice can be misleading and ignorance is never a defense in court. County clerks would not act like advisers but would tell you about the law.
