Continuing contract and sers retirement

I am currently in a continuing contract with the county under SERS. I had planned to retire at the end of the next contract year (July 1). Changes within our county have caused me to reconsider retiring this year instead. I pulled out my contract and noticed they changed my position. Is this legal? Can they change my position while in a continuing contract without notice? The contract also states they want a 90-day notice to retire. Are there any ramifications if I fail to do so? Finally, if I give 90-day notice and retire part way into a contract year, does that partial year salary affect my SERS retirement benefits?

This is an old thread & original poster has most likely resolved his/her situation by now. Answering for reference purposes.

Some of your answers might be in your actual contract. When a contract is involved, you can always take it to a contract attorney for review & advice.

Here is a link to the SERS of Ohio website which may also be of some help.
