I own a NYC co-op; an issue came up & I politely e-mailed the president as we have been requested to do, & this individual begins personal attacks (I am not the only recipient to his bizarre behavior). Recently doors were left open to the entrance of the building and left unlocked after someone moved out (apparently no one supervised); upon entering I closed and locked the doors as no one was around. I e-mailed the president noting the problem and that whoever moved out should be spoken to regarding this as it was really rather dangerous. We have had some incidents where individuals entered and caused problems & injury. This seems reasonable that in NYC you would want your doors locked. What I received was a personal attack about my perceived tone, and I was addressed with a sarcastic title, saying what could they do about the problem?...no real answer to what I was e-mailing about.
Each time there is a problem this Board President attacks, many have received such e-mails because they simply disagreed over a wall color. He has turned this building into a paranoid place where only he gets his way through intimidation and jr. high behavior and everyone seems to be afraid of him.
Do I have any legal recourse regarding his comments, mocking way of addressing me or do I have to put up with this? (Of course next year it is hoped we can remove him from the Board but I doubt this will happen because most are afraid of him.) I feel he is trying to intimidate me as an individual and as Board President is not taking a specific situation and potentially dangerous situation very seriously. He frequently makes "comments" and is very nosy regarding one's apartment, financial status, comings and goings, etc. Please advise as he has added a great deal of stress to my living which my health cannot take at this time. Thank you.
