Closing of Estate

First, thanks for answering my estate sale question. Now a different question(s). The closing on my mother's house was March 15 but the estate can't be officially closed until mid June, six months from the date of my mother's death. Is it normal for the Executor of the Estate to distribute the proceeds of the sale of the home prior to asset distribution? Also, is there a legal percentage that the Executor is entitled to (there was never anything in writing pertaining to this).

Thanks again for your condolences. This has been a very difficult and stressful time. If everything is settled mid-June, that's fine. I would just like to know your legal expertise.
