The "funny" story : I am a swiss citizen on J-1 visa and was convicted guilty (my plea was not guilty) of eluding a police officer command. = Class 3 Misdemeanor. It happened 4 months ago at 3 am on a local Virginia road. As a new driver I didn't know that I had to stop when a police car was behind me with the blue lights on (!)... This was just a routine check, but of course I got arrested. The judge tells me that he understands it was cultural misunderstanding and not vicious at all, but still I was considered guilty. Only $75 fine, no license suspension, nothing.
The "not-so-funny" problem : I am still guilty (even if I don't really agree) of a class 3 misdemeanor and I have to renew my J-1 visa in Switzerland. Should I expect problems ? Should I take an attorney ?
