Civil Law Suit

My 13 year old daughter was caught shoplifting a $9 piece of jewelry. We have not gone to juvenile court yet, but just received notification from an attorney that this company is opening a civil suit and would like $200 to discountinue proceedings. This happened in Orlando Florida. Is this something I fight in court (seems like a lot of money for this) or pay because legal fees & time will be more than the $200. Would the words Civil Demand be a part of the letter. If so there
is no suit going to happen. A civil demand is legal, and can be up to
$500 (the cost of the item lifted matters not), any ideas of not paying
it would be foolish

There are two parts of the process Criminal, and Civil. The juvenile
court will satisfy the criminal part, while the civil demand satisfies
the civil part
