Criminal Trials, Hearings civil fines?

my Roommates mother is sueing her for money that she supposely let her borrow but it was indeed a gift and my roomate is currently unemployed and if this all goes through it would be a civil suit against her and she was wondering if she could be put in jail for civil fines like she couldnt pay them so she has to sit them out my roommate has 2 kids and does not want to go to jail.

No jail unless there is some kind of crime involved. Garnishing wages maybe. Probably put on some kind of payment schedule.

I imagine you mean civil judgments not fines. Fines are punishments for certain crimes and wouldn't apply to 99% of Civil cases. (Civil contempt is an exception). You can't go to jail for not paying a civil judgment if that is what you are asking.
