Hi:
I'm currently a college student in Chicago, Five and half years ago, I made the stupid mistake of committing shoplifting out of a dare by a friend. I was so ashamed that I rushed through the court process, admitting guilt, getting 1 year court supervision and 40 hours of community service. I'm planning to apply for expungement of my records as soon as the five year limit is up. All my family members are US citizens now, except me (I have the green card). I want to become a citizen to start working for a government organization, and they require citizenship. But I've heard different things about whether or not I will be rejected. I understand that this is a crime of "moral turpitude", but I've gotten counseling, consistently volunteered and behaved well after that incident, Is there a way for me to become a citizen? Thank you all for any help I can receive. This forum is very help, especially for people like me, who have gone astray in the past.
