This is my 1st speeding ticket. Our family has not used the PFJ. Should I go and talk to the ADA before the court date and try to get reduced to 9 over and/or get a PFJ? Or have a atty handle? Any advice would be helpful.

24 over might be tough to negotiate down on your own (depending on where & when it happened). Retain an attorney or you can try ask for a reduction to 9 over (no insurance points for first conviction. If they so no, plead not guilty and return with a lawyer.
I'd keep the PFJ in reserve for something more serious, but it would be best to speak with an attorney first.
