checking account levied

I receive direct deposit for SSI and VA pension. A creditor has a judgment and has issued a levy on my checking account. I have read that California civil code 704.080(b) automatically exempts this account without having to file anything. However, I did file an exemption form with the sheriff. I also wrote to the bank. Is there anything else I need to do to keep my account from being frozen?
