What a great website :)

I owe/owed Discover Card in the amount of around $3000. I was twelve months behind on my payments, and recieved a phone call stating that "I hope you received your summons, if so, don't call back." Followed by the name and phone number of a law firm 400 miles from me.

I'm not disputing the charges. I really do owe them that money, but I'm an out of work California college student with a ton of Student Loan debt taking car of a grandfather with Alzheimers. If you think my financial situation is crud, my social life sure hasn't been great either.

What I'd like to know is what my options are. I have not recieved the summons.

Ideally, I'd like to set up some repayment plan without the legal hassle of showing up in court (which sounds like it might be 400 miles away). Something like $300 a month for 12 months, etc.

Also, can I go to jail because I owe $3000 to a credit card company?

Any reponses are helpful.

Thanks!
