Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft caught shoplifting in ca

I was recently caught shoplifting items that totaled around $45. I was taken to a back office and they typed up a report and called the police. I was with an infant and was given a ticket and was told I needed to go get booked on my own time. I have contacted a lawyer about the charges but I am confused on what to expect when I go in for booking.

Do i need to call and make an appointment before I go in to the police department?

Will they hold me until I can make bail or will I be released after the booking?

What should I expect out of the booking experience?

There should be a number on the ticket that you can call with questions. If not, contact your courts and see what steps you need to take.
