Is there any laws pertaining to a California Car Dealership that stipulates when and how they can obtain a credit report on a potential customer? For instance, if the customer goes to the dealer's website, fills out the requested info and submits it - is that enough for the dealer to have the authority to pull a credit report? Afterall, the dealership doesn't have any proof that the person who entered the info on the website is the owner of the information. Does the dealership have to have a signed credit application prior to pulling a credit report? if so, where is this written as law?
