Can someone's prior arrests be used against them in future cases regardless of the length of time that has passed?

For example, a kidnapping charge which occurred over 10 years ago. The defendant was later acquitted. The defendant was wrongly accused and was cleared of all charges at trial. Can this incident, which occurred over 10 years ago, be used to classify this person as a violent individual?

I am wondering if there is any case law regarding the time in between prior arrests and if they can be used to classify an individual in this example?

Any thoughts?
