I am currently a permanent resident, meaning that i have a green card. I was just accepted to a caribbean medical school that i may start in a few months.
This year i will be gone for 4 months, but next year i will be gone 2 semesters which is 8-9 months. Now my questions are as follows:

1. Can i leave the US as a permanent resident for 5-9 months without having my status revoked?
2. Is there a way that i can still go to the schools overseas?
3. what kind of issues will arrise when i apply for naturalization? i heard that they will ask me if i ever left the US and for how long...

it would be great if i could get answers to these questions. Thank You.

Please read the documents you were given and signed at the time you were issued or applied for your Green card.

If you have questions about your status, always ask the authorities at CBP or CSIS:

If you are a lawful permanent resident (green card holder), you are permitted to depart the U.S. multiple times and reenter, as long as you do not intend to stay outside the U.S. for LONGER than 365 days at a time.

If you intend to stay outside the U.S. for MORE than one year, you must apply for a re-entry permit with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) prior to leaving the U.S.

Re-entry permits are generally valid for 2 years from the date of issuance.

If you are outside of the U.S. longer than the date the permit was issued, you may be denied entry into the U.S.

Again, make sure you discuss all EXTENDED INTERNATIONAL travel plans with USCIS.

I suggest you pose SPECIFIC questions to YOUR immigration attorney, or the USCIS.

Don't risk your security by posing these specific kinds of questions.

Suppose the information given is incorrect?

If it is, only YOU would be impacted.

Good luck.
