Bonus check

Working in a Christian Daycare center in Florida. I was hired in November of last year. The week of Christmas the business was closed but all employees were paid regular wages. Was told this was a bonus check. I am now leaving and employer says they hold last check to pay for bonus check if you don't stay 1 year. Can they do this? Is it legal to take my last check? They were paid while the business was closed, why can't I be?

Do you have any type of bonus agreement you can read to see what it says? (doesn't sound like it was that type of bonus though where you would have an agreement) The Fl. DOL is very weak & generally sends all wage claims to the federal DOL. You can try suing in small claims court for any money you believe is due you.
