Assault & Battery Barfight Assault Charge

lets say my friend cj was involved in a barfight... so its 1am, cj walks into the bathroom and has to wait in line to use it. Two people ahead of him is someone he doesnt get along with. cj is just standing by himself waiting in line when this other guy walks over to him, he grabs Cj's shoulder and is standing between cj and the door so bj cant just walk away so cj hit the guy after he grabbed him because he felt threatened and couldnt get out. as he ran to the door another patron in the bathroom put his hand on his chest, Cj replied "I just want to leave." as it seemed he thought bj was going after himSo Cj tailed it out of there because he was afraid he would b in trouble and DIDNT realize how bad the guy was hurt, there was a lot of blood. The guys gf told bj he had a broken nose, black eye and biggest fat lip shes ever seen. Cj is afraid because the bouncers who work there said he came back the next day and asked if they needed to know he was filing assault charges. Cj didnt receive injuries past a scraped leg from falling but and is wondering how this charge could end up? btw there are cameras but not in the bathroom seeing the actual event so bj is trying to figure out how it could b self defense or if it would even go to court everyone was drunk. Please advice is appreciated I have no money $-45 in the bank so just getting a lawyer isnt and option. what do you think the results would be or does it even have a chance to go to trial? btw this is maryland CJ is 23 with a previous record of one arrest for drug related crime. thanks ahead of time

Sounds like you're guilty to me but ask for a trial and a public defender.

Drunks having fights isn't really a big priority with courts; if you have a clean record and are found guilty, ask for probation and start going to Alcoholics Anonymous (in fact, go to AA before you go to court if you want to impress the judge...and bring your sponsor to court with you).

I havent been charged but considered filing assault charges on him because he grabbed me up first. I didnt because he ended up sustaining more serious injuries i have some bruises from his punches and a scraped leg from him taking me down but thats it. I felt threatned as he blocked my exit I didnt know what to do. I am scared because I REALLY didnt expect it to be that serious as the whole ordeal was no more than 5 seconds I just wanted to get past him. I hate how it looks because I dont have ne witnesses. I just wish there was a camera that could have shown him coming up to me and assaulting me first... I just wish he didnt get hurt it was totally un intentional, he fell to the ground as I ran by to get away and possibly his nose broke during that fall I didnt stick around to find out... his friends grabbed me and were yelling at me so I ran away from them and out of the bar... I guess I will have to wait to see but really I would think if he knew for a fact it was my fault he would have filed charges by now. See the whole reason I believe it happened was because he heard from a girl I was on probation and wanted to get me in trouble. I guess I have to wait it out and hope for the best, I dont think filing assault charges against him first would help since his injuries ended up more serious I just wish I had the broken nose :-/

Im a little guy at 150lb and wouldnt do well in prison I have that "baby face" people tell me. I feel like going to AA now before being charged would just make me look more guilty like I started it and am at fault when I know for a fact I really felt threatened. I could have just ran if he didnt block my exit grabbing me. Hes a few inches taller and has some weight on me. I really didnt want a problem. this is pretty depressing as I was supposed to be off probation in 2 years, its been 2 years and 3 months and havent heard from them since april. I went with my friends to celebrate her birthday and am really regretting it now, wrong place wrong time :-/ thanks for your help and advice I really do appreciate it.
