Hi, Students who have paid for MSW degrees at Arkansas State University were told throughout the program that the only thing keeping the school from being accredited is that the school has to graduate the first class. These students have been lied to and learned that accreditation will not be granted for at least a year af ter they graduate, if then. These students have student loans to pay back, and have made life choices such as getting mortgages on homes they cannot afford all on the assumption that they would have MSW degrees that are accredited, which will then allow them to take the licensing exam.

They have been told not to discuss the matter with employers, or with other students in the MSW program that will be graduating after them. Most of these students have devoted years to the study. What do they need to do first from a legal standpoint? What should the other classes who have already devoted a year to the program do? What kind of lawyer should we/they be looking for? Any advice is appreciated.

You have no recourse. A school earns accreditation. It is bestowed. These students should have researched the issue before committing to a worthless education.
