Arbitration Question

My jurisdiction is: NY

My doctor presented me with an arbitration aggreement. Although I do not think that I will have any problems, I am wondering what it all means. Is this a bad thing to sign before surgery.

These are standard. It just means that you go to arbitration instead of regular court if a claim arises. They do this because it is cheaper. The only thing to watch out for is a clause stating that they have the exclusive right to choose the venue and/or arbitrator.
