My boyfriend and his ex girlfriend broke up and when she moved out of the apt, the rental office required him to pay a $50 fee to remove the ex from the lease. Both of them were present when she was removed. Now, it is almost 2 months later, and the rental office is just now calling my boyfriend to come into the office to sign a "new lease". His original lease was set to expire in November, and he wants out immediately.
Does this technically mean that he is currently on a month-to-month lease?
If he doesn't sign this new lease, is he free to move at the end of the month?
If he does notify the rental office/landlord, and then moves, can they take him to court for breaking the lease?
