This is in regards to a former thread I started a month or two ago. It was titled "just a question." I had it under the topic child abuse, molestation and porn and I wanted to put it under the same topic but this was the topic closest to the first that I could find. I wasn't sure how to follow up on someone else's answer to a thread I had started as a guest so I just made a whole other thread. Anyway, I was told that the situation I asked about in the previous thread could certainly put the accused in jail. My question now is could anything be done after about 6/7 years? Or would it be a lost cause for me to try to press charges or something against the guy? I'm sorry if it's too much trouble to go back to the other thread, but I'm not sure how to use this website.

How to use this site: Below this comment you will see a series of blue words. One of them is "reply." If you click on it my entire comment will be copied to a new space and then you can begin writing in that new space. You do that if you want to be clear that you are responding to a particular comment. And then you click on the green "post reply" button.

The alternative is to look a little further down to the space that has the scales next to it and says "write your reply." When you finished you click on the green "post reply" button.

You can revive your thread any time by posting a new message and the thread goes to the top of the active list.

I located your previous post of July 22 which says:

"Reading up on statutory rape, I've learned every case is different and they all have their own circumstances letting us know- Is this statutory rape? I obviously cannot find a case like the one I've got in mind and I really want to know about the legal basis of it. I would like to make it clear that the case has NOTHING to do with me, so I can't do much, but I would like to know other people's opinions nonetheless. This happened to a close friend of mine years ago when she was only eleven. Some kid, either 14 or 15 convinced her to have sex with him. She told me she didn't want it but didn't do anything to stop him either. Is this in any way illegal? Is it fair to say she was molested/assaulted/raped,etc.? It's difficult for me to say because they were both minors at the time. Also rape is defined differently in each state. This happened in New Jersey though. Any clarifications for me? Please?"

Now, I'll get to your current questions:

My question now is could anything be done after about 6/7 years?

According to the following resource, there is no statute limitations in NJ on sex crimes against children. Scroll down to New Jersey.

STATUTES OF LIMITATIONS FOR SEXUAL ASSUALT CRIMES IN NEW ENGLAND, NEW YORK, AND NEW JERSEY

Or would it be a lost cause for me to try to press charges or something against the guy?

No way to predict. People don't "press charges" they report crimes and then it's up to the prosecutor.
