American Express has turned over 2 of our credit card accounts (totalling $73K) to an attorney. The attorney has since called us and stated that we either need to pay 20% of it down and then 10% a month until paid or settle the entire amount for $57K. Because of job changes for my wife and the poor economy hurting my small business we cannot come up with this money. we need to know what options we have in Pennsylvania. We have a 1st and 2nd mtg and that has utilized all of our equity so there is none left to take another loan out. we've tried multiple places but have not found anyone to lend us the money. The attorney is threating Litigation. Note: the debt is soley in my wife's name and the house is in Joint names.
