Roomate Am I owed any funds for being evicted if not on the lease?

Hello

I have been renting a room from my roommate for the past 3 years and for his sake of not raising the rent have not been added to the lease. Now the building has been sold and he has been served with a notice to quit with an amount of money to pay for his expenses.

Do I have any rights as a roommate who is not on the lease?

Why would anyone pay you to leave a residence where you never had a lease and were essentially an under the table guest?

The landlord doesn't even know you exist. You and your roommate were cheating the landlord out of the additional rent they were apparently entitled to in the terms of the lease. All this time you didn't want the landlord to know of your existence. Now if you can convince your roommate to share some of his/her expense money with you, that's between the two of you.
