My ex-husband is in arrears of my court ordered alimony in the amount of $2000.00. I have to have hip replacement surgery next month and have not met the deductable on my insurance. The court order was made in MA but I now live in SC. What do I need to do? and can it be carried out without a lawyer as I cannot afford the fees.

On the surface it would seem you should contact your ex-husband to put him on notice. You may also wish to alert him that time is of the essence and make note of your communication so that it can be established if needed. That said, if you're hoping to compel him to pay quickly, I'm not sure that there will be a remedy that will satisfy you quickly. Wage garnishment usually takes time and doesn't happen immediately. But first steps first - we don't even know if he'll claim that the alimony payment must have been lost in the mail.
