Question: I bought a house with a partner, and the partner and I split up. I moved out a year ago, and the partner got a roommate. The roommate moved out, and the partner now wants me to pay half of the mortgage again. I applied for a hardship on the house with the mortgage company and am waiting to hear back from them as to what they can do for us. Would it be wise to get an attorney at this stage or should I wait to see what the mortgage company comes back with? The house is on the market right now to sell. And do I need an attorney at all or is it wise to just work things out with the mortgage company myself?
