Fraud, Embezzlement, Bad Checks Accused of insurance fraud

Our house burned. We submitted many items to ins company. We work away from home so we had someone who helped with purchases and putting receipts together for us to send to the ins co. Now an insurance investigator is saying that many of the receipts are forgeries or have false amounts on them. The person who helped(??) us has left town and we don't know how to find her. Gave her name to the ins investigator, but I'm terrified and don't know what to do now.

Unfortunately, you are responsible for your own insurance claim.
You argument that someone else who was helping you committed the fraud and took off out of town won't necessarily absolve you from responsibility. You should have been checking the work and verifying accuracy. Most likely you signed statements stating that the submitted information was true and correct.
You will just have to wait and see what happens with the investigation.

If I were you, I'd say nothing to the insurance investigators or police.
I'd hire an attorney and prepare to defend any charges that MIGHT surface.
In the meantime, you are cloaked in the presumption of innocence.
You are, in a legal sense, a pure as a little lamb.
Say nothing more about this matter, in order to preserve your position, unless it is to your lawyer!
