I have accounts which I was delinquent in 1998. However, the collection agency or third party purchasers of charge off account have kept these accounts as current up to 2002. What does it mean to me? Doesn't the 7 year period start from delinquency date & should not be kept as current? I have no contact with these agency but would like to know if I can dispute the date of delinquency with the credit bureau. Next question would disputing open a can of worms with the collection agency? Is this a method to trace me?

What do you hope to accomplish? If you owe the debt, the actual dates make little difference. In addition, they might always go to court and obtain a judgment against you, along with a lien, and that could stick with you for a long time, longer than seven years. It's never a good idea to think about blowing of bills for seven years because then it means you are "free" and the debt is practically discharged in "quasi-bankruptcy."
