I don't know what "appointments" means. If you're talking about court appearance, then of course. It's done all the time and a client's presence is frequently not required. With regard to making an appointment assuming a third party consents, what's the problem? Obviously it would be in very poor form to assert that a third party will be present if that person hasn't ever spoken to that third party.
