WACO, Texas (KWTX) A China Spring man found guilty of seven counts of sexual abuse of a young family member over the course of a decade was sentenced to 356 years in state prison on Thursday.

Judge David Hodges, in 19th District Court, sentenced Brian Todd Dekle, 54, to serve terms of 74 years each on four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and 20-years each on two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child by contact, and then ordered the sentences "stacked," or served consecutively, court records show.

The charges came after a now-27-year-old family member accused Dekle of abusing her over a 10-year period of time when she was a child.

Dekle's defense team already has said it will appeal the convictions.

It was Dekle's second day in court.

A mistrial was declared in the first on Nov. 28, 2018, when a jury member already seated reported an issue to District Judge Ralph Strother.

In response, Strother dismissed the jury panel and granted a mistrial.

If there were only a way of making him live long enough to serve the full sentence.

The way the judge stacked the charges, instead of allowing them to be served concurrently, means he'll never be free to harm a child anywhere on this planet.

Our TDCJ prisons aren't air conditioned.

During our wonderful Texas summers (as well as other great days), the cell blocks use huge fans (the type used to cool hogs) to move hot air from the outside to the inside.

The administrative areas are air conditioned.

Before they were air conditioned, lawyers refused to visit their clients at TDCJ facilities.

Most would get a district court order to have the inmate moved to the county jail where the lawyer practiced.

I presume the transportation costs exceeded the cost to air condition the prisons.
