Police in Louisiana are still looking for one of three brothers accused of raping a 10-year-old girl who had locked herself inside a bedroom to hide from them.

The three men, who live with the victim and her family, were home alone with the child last week when they began making sexual advances toward her, even offering her money at one point, authorities said.

The girl then ran to a bedroom and locked herself inside, but the alleged perverts broke the lock, undressed the victim and sexually assaulted her, according to police.

The horrific incident happened Sept. 9 at a home in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner. Three days later, the child disclosed the rape to a relative, who then reported the incident to authorities right away.

Two of the suspects, 35-year-old Raul and Wilmer Paz-Perez, were arrested that same day and charged with first-degree rape.

Their younger brother, 31-year-old Elder Paz-Perez, remains at large. Anyone who has any information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Kenner Police Department as soon as possible.

In Louisiana, a charge of first-degree rape can result in the death penalty when the victim is under the age of 13.

I was there for about an hour in the mid 80's on a news story. I think it was the moment I decided that any sort of criminal life, especially in LA, was not for me.

As you might imagine the army was at times in the 60s a very contentious place.
It seems there were many soldiers going AWOL, even deserting.
The FBI and US Marshals worked those names during their off duty hours, and received a $50 bounty for everyone they returned to military custody.
I had yet to see Nam, and was waiting for such an assignment after completing Ranger School, assigned to a casual company.
My duty was a PC, prisoner chaser.
PCs would draw a sidearm, ammo, handcuffs and leg irons.
We'd get a list of prisoners from the stockade that required transport to various places: hospital, psych eval, defense lawyer, finance, etc...

Once I saw that stockade, that was the moment I knew that I'd never break any laws.

Prior to that, I had dad and mom to answer to, but as tough as they were, that stockade made them look like pushovers.

Plus, the stories the guys would tell me "scared me to stay straight".

Later as a JAG, then a civilian lawyer, in and out of various hoosegows I knew that was no life for this country boy.
