Pros and cons of compensation through W2 vs 1099?

It's one of the biggest companies. If W2 is ending up better for us (half taxes), the weird part is company is willing to increase the W2 portion, but not the 1099 (untaxed) portion! So weird...

Patent Patent ownership assignment request from ex company

Yes. I invented something while I was employed at the company. I had no contract about ownership. I submitted the idea to the company innovation portal. So not sure if it's my name or company name.

Patent Patent ownership assignment request from ex company

I submitted a good patent application with my *previous* company which they terminated me brutally. And now as a part of patent filing, they sent me an "assignment" file to sign which has weird terms to me and I never had an experience with signing such a file (I was going to sue the company so...

Pros and cons of compensation through W2 vs 1099?

They didn't mention anything. Just dividing all into 2 halves. I'm getting confused again...why "save about 6.2% if the wages are paid via 1099"? We just concluded 1099 will cause more taxes.

Pros and cons of compensation through W2 vs 1099?

So shall we tell the company to report all as W2 to benefit us? Googling, it says: Eventually independent contractors (1099) will actually owe higher taxes than employees. This is because not only will income tax be taken out, but self-employment tax as well. 1099 workers are also expected to...

Pros and cons of compensation through W2 vs 1099?

There should be a reason why the company is doing it. But we want to know the individual impacts on his taxes either way.

Pros and cons of compensation through W2 vs 1099?

I think the answer really lies on the general difference between W2 and 1099. He has no attorney. You can look at the link justblue shared for the description of the charge he made with the EEOC and he is compensated for that now.

Pros and cons of compensation through W2 vs 1099?

My friend had a settlement agreement with his previous company and they are going to issue him $30K. But the company is splitting it up into 2 parts: with half of it taxed (reported on an IRS Form W2) and half untaxed (reported on an IRS Form 1099). Why are they doing it? What's the best for...

Best strategy to negotiate severance with a company after unlawful termination?

There are some evidences, but harder to prove. Anyways, do you think I should propose cutting in the middle (say 50k), or they propose it? I feel if I do it it might be a sign of desperation. If not, I am thinking to propose 56k. Any suggestions?

Best strategy to negotiate severance with a company after unlawful termination?

How did you come up with this piece, and that against Mr. X?! He was a great team player, but to isolate him, they mobbed and ganged against him from higher level orders. Btw, you guys think better we continue counter-offering to reach the middle or just propose cut in the middle? P.S. I have...

Best strategy to negotiate severance with a company after unlawful termination?

If we cut right on 50K, it would be great. Here is details about my case. It's a big internet company..not sure if allowed to share the name: Mr. X was terminated from his employment without prior notice for false pretextual reasons by his supervisor Mr. A (American) and Mr. B (American). Mr. X...

Best strategy to negotiate severance with a company after unlawful termination?

Btw, it's actually IDHR and not EEOC. They were going through investigation path, but I chose mediation instead. I've propose 57.5K and they responded with 36K. Any feedbacks or comments?

Best strategy to negotiate severance with a company after unlawful termination?

Yeah I did like 5 months of pay, plus bonuses. So it was more than 80k. Assuming I was winning the case, how much is the usual number people ask? Also I think if I suddenly offer cit in the middle (47k), they will see how much I'm willing to go down..so this might damage the case?
