    Jurors, and the un-common sense

The thread http://www.thelaw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51806 was closed, but I did want to say this: If I were on the jury for this matter, I'd consider the probability of the person actually wanting to steal the item, e.g. Prior similar offences? Were other more expensive items paid for...

Copyright Ebay Auctions removed-Law Firm Sent Me A Letter

It does seem very dubious that a real law firm supposedly representing such a large corporation would only request $325, which is more than the hourly rate for many attorneys. Has the OP verified that it is really a legitimate law firm in NYC? I imagine a legitimate law firm wouldn't try these...

Involuntary application of passport for minor

Scenario, to protect identities of the parties: P1 and P2 are parents of a minor child C1, and are involved in a divorce. P2 holds 3 citizenships: U.S., Canada, and another country (birth country of P2) not part of the Hague Convention. P1 has fears that P2 might abduct C1 to Canada, or worse...

Naturalization, Citizenship Can i get Dual Citizenship - born and raised in Germany

Generally, to anyone holding a Green Card for a long time, who might get confronted by the BCIS on entry. Many years ago (1960's, 70's?) one just had to show up in the U.S. and request immigration, and it was very easy to obtain. It has become harder to obtain over the years, and it is becoming...

Naturalization, Citizenship Can i get Dual Citizenship - born and raised in Germany

I don't mean to digress, but since the 9/11 incident, the BCIS (formerly INS) has been given a lot of authority over non-citizens at the U.S. Port of Entry, including the ability for Immigration Officers to revoke Green Cards and deport people for dubious reasons. I'd say get a U.S. Citizenship...

    Selective Service System

"If you are a man ages 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., then you must register with Selective Service. It’s the law." - www.sss.gov Most people in that age group I know either don't know what the SSS is, or do not register at all. One even told me that it's optional because of the word...

Naturalization, Citizenship Can i get Dual Citizenship - born and raised in Germany

I know at least 2 German-born citizens who hold a U.S. and German citizenship & passport. I believe they are required to use the German passport when entering Germany and the U.S. passport when entering the U.S. Not sure what Germany would do if they found out about the U.S. citizenship, but...

Naturalization, Citizenship Can i get Dual Citizenship - born and raised in Germany

Many Canadians apply for (and obtain) U.S. Citizenship, without renouncing their Canadian citizenship.

Do i need to provide two weeks notice to quit my job

Don't burn your bridges with your former employer. Always leave with a smile, thanking them for the wonderful opportunity you have had while you were with them, and wishing them success in their endeavours. Even if you don't really mean it. If your new employer detects any sign of negativity...

Discrimination case for not being gay

Often, the people who get promoted are those who get along with their superiors and don't pose a risk to them: the last thing an insecure superior wants is someone who is going to question their decision or authority. Maybe your competence was a threat to your superior in some way?

Consumer Law, Warranties is this bait and switch?

Gotta wonder what happened to the guy who made the error(s) in the ad? If the loss to the company was significant, standard operational procedure in many companies would be to terminate him. :(

The most interesting Human Resources case this year

Maybe he was a contractor previously, and thought he could sub-contract out his work :^) Somewhat related outsourcing issue, this one involving threat of publicity of U.S. patient medical records: Summary San Francisco hospital outsources Medical Transcription services to local contractors...

    Here we go again...

Sometimes the biggest threat to gun-owners are their own kids: "... he took his parents' .22 caliber rifle and shot his mother ..." - http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/01/nm-teen-shot-family-planned-to-kill-more.html

    Perjury, or lesser?

In a legal proceeding in court, if an attorney A1 states: "Plaintiff P1 claims he did so-and-so to hide his assets from his creditors", and P1 never said that, and P1 had no creditors that A1 could name, would attorney A1 be guilty of perjury? Or a lesser charge?

    The Invisible War

I just watched a documentary "The Invisible War" on Netflix - details the rape cases of a number of women serving in our military, and the difficulty they have in getting any kind of justice there. Victims from the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, parents, a member of the military...

The Ultimate in Outrageous Attorney Billing Practices

Would he have been suspended if he had not billed for having sex with his client? From the article, it appears that he only got busted because he broke off the affair, and his client tried to kill herself and had disclosed the issue while hospitalized. I suspect more of that dubious attorney's...

Public Order, Loitering, Urination Urinating in Public

Somewhat related, but there was an incident in which a woman who did not want to wait the long lines outside the women's restrooms in a crowded football stadium during a game decided to use the men's restroom instead. She went over the men's urinal and went right there. A friend at the next...

    Fraudulent Conveyance?

Could we set your suspicion that I am posting nonsense aside for a minute, and get back to my question? This is a true case and names had been changed to protect identities. Attorney A1 apparently (and narrowly) escaped a malpractice suit because the Statute of Limitations had expired. Does...

Can I sue my car dealership for breach of contract?

I'd report the incident to eBay. If the seller was a regular on eBay, it'll go on his record there. If he was a first time seller, he'd probably disappear so his eBay rating won't make a difference. The seller profile/rating on those sites gives one some idea of the trustworthiness of the seller.
