Hello,

I'm 20 years old.
I came to the United States 1 year ago.

Since then, I've been living with my father and my step mother.
Throughout the whole year, I've been helping them to pay the mortgage, Sometimes even when I didn't/couldn't. When that was the case, they stole money from my wallet, asked me to deposit money to their account, and then gave me a check which eventually bounced.

In total, they owe me 30K dollars.

They applied for my Green Card.
I didn't receive it yet, it is still pending.

Now they're threatening to cancel my application if I don't pay their mortgage every month.

I want to study, I'm 20 years old, and I spent my whole year paying their bills, and now they're blackmailing me / extorting me.

I don't know what I can do anymore?
Should I just go back to my country?

I mean, there must be something that I can legally do to stop them.
I don't care if they cancel my green card application, I want them to be punished before I go back to my country.

I don't know what lawyer to contact, or even if it my case has any ground.
Thank you very much for your help.

For this one, you need to go to a safe location and call 911. They will send a police officer out to take your information. They then will pass it on to the proper authorities who will set up a meeting with you to go over the details. You should be aware that if your dad or stepmother or you are here illegally, it could mean being sent back to your native country. But, what they are doing is similar to slavery and we don't allow that in this country. You will be taken seriously and your best interests will be watched out for.

No, not really. That's a misuese of 911. If you need to contact the police, find the number for your local precinct and call it.

Good luck.
