Dear Mr. BLah,
DIRECTV is investigating individuals receiving DIRECTV programming without authorization. Illegal reception of DIRECTV's programming is accomplished through the use of modified DIRECTV access cards (sometimes referred to as "test" cards) and other illegal signal theft devices.
Long story short, they busted a company in Canada from where he purchased his reader about 2 yrs. ago.
That's the ONLY thing they have against him, is that he purchased this hardware when it was legal in Canada.....
Basically they go on to state, that if he will just call them, ( of course this would confirm you received the letter, since they DIDN't send it w/confirmation or anything), agree to turn in ALL illegal signal stealing devices, sign a waver stating he will never have anything to do with the process, (hardware, coding, software) of stealing sat signals, AAND>.. " Pay a monetary sum to DIRECTV for your past wrongful conduct and the damages thereby incurred by the company".
WHAT BULLSHIT...
A. He purchased a gun, does that make him a murderer?
B. Like I said, they didn't even send this letter certified mail, there is nothing that says he received this letter.
C. How can they "prove" that any signal was ever "used" or "stolen" by my cuz??
D. There was never any profit made from this card reader. If he did test cards out with it, it was for personal use only, and I actually think he originally bought the thing to try and make a more secure login system for his home pc. It was only after that, he discovered other uses for the card reader...
