I sold our boat the other day. And now he called me back telling me that the engine has a broken head on it. That he was going to change the spark plugs on it for a tune up and that the spark plug was not held in place, that he pulled it out. He says he wants me to pay for fixing it or hes gonna sue us.
We used the boat back in 2005. And then it sat in our drive way till we sold it. Back when we used it, it worked fine. We didnt use the boat because we didnt have time to go use it and we had a family emergency that we spent all of 2006 summer on.
He asked me if anything was broken on it. I told him no. The last time we used the boat it worked fine. And that it had just sat there for a long time. Now hes saying it was broken and that he has witnesses(relatives). He says hes gonna have it fixed and its gonna be over $150 and he want me to pay for it. Or he will sue us.
Can he do that? Anyway i can defend my self? We only used it for 1 year. During that time we never changed the spark plugs or did anything to it. It ran fine. He looked at the boat while it was parked infront of the house and said it was perfect. He looked at the boat, trailer, and the motor(33HP) and then i showed him a extra motor(9.9HP) with no propelor. He then said he would buy all 4 for $1,200. I cant believe someone would do something like this. If it did break its not my fault that it broke. Is there sometype of AS-IS law that can protect me.

Caveat emptor, let the buyer beware. He bought an old, used boat from a private party... it happens. He can try and sue you, but the burden of proof is on him.
