To start with, the style of writing that capitalizes every word is annoying and gives some of us a headache. It's hard to track such a post.

Second, I may have missed it, because it IS hard to read, but what state is this? State law could make a difference.

Wait ... you said she was 17? That's not an adult.

See what I mean about the state being important?

Penalties and sentencing will depend upon the specific offenses she is charged with. There are also many variable that could take place ... intervention programs, counseling, etc. She could face nothing more than fines and counseling, or juvenile hall and probation. There is no way to know. If, for some reason, she is an adult in your state, then she is on her own with regards to counsel and such, and you won't be able to find out much. If she is a minor child, then you can hire her defense counsel and should have a right to most the information concerning her legal situation.

Being charged as a minor in possession of alcohol is NOT a huge crime. She might lose her license, but otherwise, she is not likely to suffer much from it unless she has a criminal history beyond this, or faces additional crimes.

I am sorry for my writing I live in michigan and she does not have a record.I have called the cops 3 times they will not do anything to make her come home said she is an adult. Do they have to give me a copy of the police report? Her m.i.p. was for alcohol.Should I get a court apponited attorney? thank you joye

There are a handful of states - Texas being one, and apparently Michigan being another, where the law has a loophole where 17-year-olds cannot be forcibly detained and brought home.

If you have no assets and cannot afford an attorney, then counsel will be appointed to represent her. When she DOES go to court, perhaps the judge will place her on probation and have as a condition of that probation that she remain at home until she is 18.

Talk to the prosecutor or probation officer handling the case and see what he or she has to say.

I am sure there are plenty that can but I have dylexia and am learning disabled so it took me along time to write that and this sorry i have challenges I have to fight w/ everyday. When somebody makes a wise crack about the way I write isn't funny your a judge you shoudn't judge somebody you don't know our assume the whole state is like that. thank you for your smart comment you made my day!!!!!!!! I feel better about myself know knowing a judge can ridicule I am sure that is spelt wrong but you know what i mean. But you sit behind a desk and can judge anybody the way you want by writing even looks which in society it shouldn't be that way but it is thanks I hope you feel better about yourself know!!!!!!!!

minor in possession of alcohol

Hi, I read your post and it sounds like a very similar situation with my son only last month. He was 18 and got arrested for minor in possession of alcohol and drinking in a public place (he was at a park). He was facing a fine of $625 and suspended licence. However, he went and talked to the judge that would be handling his case and he recommended a program in which he paid $250.00 (handling of the program) and entered an agreement to go to alcohol awareness classes for six weeks and do 20 hours of community service at our state park. If he does this, then he can pay another $100 and get his record esponged. It will not show up on any future background checks. He also did not have to go to court an pay the $625. He will only be out $350 - $400 and his record will be clear. You need to ask the judge if your state has a similar program. This really helps first time offenders and young people who just made a bad decision at the time. It sounds like the judge if being very harsh for somthing that so many teenagers are doing. I am not excusing such behavoir, I just believe that teenagers need to learn somthing from these mistakes. The judge that made the comment before should have known about this program too, instead of making such boorish comments about your writing. Good luck, hope everything works out for your family.

Wanted to say thanks appreciate ur support and help. goodluck w/ ur son also and i will be checking into this.I know teens make mistakes we all do even when were older...I hjust hope she learns from this.thanks again..about the judge and my writing.have a great day.
