I posted earlier about my daughter who is in a mental institution. She is suicidal. She has been in isolation since last Friday. She has attemped suicide three times now and almost succeeded yesterday. The doctor ordered workers to give her 2:1 in room monitoring along with camera survalence. We spoke to the doctor about sudating her while in isolation because it is making her worse. He is trying new methods to help her. We also asked for stimuli like a radio to occupy her mind and help stop the dwelling on killing herself. He said he would get this for her. The workers told me she needed to earn this privelage. The workers still have not provided her with a stimuli even after the doctors request. She has been stripped of all of her clothing and was combative during this procedure and ordered to wear paper garments (for her protection). I am really upset the doctor has even agreed the music may help her condition and they still yet have not meet this need. I suggested if they can not find a radio without a cord to put one outside her room. They do have two people in there to help protect her. Something so simple I feel could make such a tramendous impovement.

WOW! I feel for you! My daughter is disabled and I have often had to fight for the simplest of things that can improve my childs quality of life. It seems at times that the least complicated provisions can be the most difficult to get. My daughter is wheelchair bound and can not speek- so I have had to speek for her- It sounds similar to your situation in that you too have to speek for your child at a time when she can not speek up and be taken seriously. I am not an attorney or anything. If I were you- I would do some research about legal issues in the state where you live. I know that in CA a parent has a great deal of legal avenues to pursue is these types of situations. Maybe you can get a court order. Maybe you could get her doctor to write a prescription allowing the music- or maybe you can use a "music therapy' approach. Also there are wireless head phones- or how about a small portable radio that takes batterys. I know that my daughter has a radio/CD player that has the option to take regular batterys and has a removable power cord- $29.99 @ Target!

Good Luck! Stay on top of it! Your daughter is very lucky- it is easy to see how much you love her!
