Hi I had a hearing today for Class C misdemeanor for Disorderly Conduct - Breach of Peace. I wanted to know how will it effect my US citizenship process in future?
I have to undergo a supervision period of 1 year which includes Community Service which i Intend to finish it as soon as possible. Can anyone please advice me as to how will it effect US citizenship process in future? Thank you

what did you do to be charged???
and do you know what the maximum jail for that misdemeanor? (I assume it is less than a year.)

By the way, you probably need to wait for 5 years after that misdemeanor to apply citizenship.

Thank you for your response. I was arrested for shoplifting and my attorney was able to get the charge reduced to Class C misdemeanor for Disorderly Conduct - Breach of Peace and got supervision for 1 yr. He also said that this can be explunged from my record after 3 yrs. I wanted to know if this offence of mine will affect my US citizenship process in future.
Thank you
Sam..

What was the maximum possible jail time for the shoplifting incident?

If that is your only conviction, and the maximum possible jail time is not more than a year, they the petty crime exception would apply. So you would be okay. But you can't get citizenship until five years after this incident. You must show good character for atleast five years before you can apply for citizenship.
